Forest Guards - Pythons! Nov- 27 

These are the forest guards who could creep out from the dark and damp bush or for that matter slither down from the tree top without the slightest noise. And they are cool and deadly if they indeed strike. They are the newest and very unlikely sentinels of the Reserved Forest in South Tripura - eight huge pythons. Forest department had been facing a problem of illegal timber smuggling from their 160 hectares teak plantation at Garjanmura RF in Radhakishorepur for
quite some time. But of late they noticed the timber felling had mysteriously reduced to a great extent though there were not any special measures from department as such.

Majuli to get 'World heritage site' status Guwahati, Nov 27

The world's largest river island, Majuli, situated in Upper Assam is all set to get the status of World heritage site. A group of experts from UNESCO is presently camping in the river island to evaluate this River Island's claim to the heritage site.
The largest river island, which is the sheet anchor of the Vashnavite culture in Assam, is facing massive erosion due to the sudden change in the course of the river Brahmaputra.

Selected candidates for constabulary storm High Court precincts Scrutiny unearths 'lapses' in Nagaon, Nov 17

Over 250 candidates, who had made it to the panel for recruitment of constabulary in Assam,
stormed into the Guwahati High Court precincts today and shouted slogans in favour of their appointment. The candidates, who had staged a dharna at Dispur yesterday in protest against the delay in their appointment, threatened to go for self-immolation if they were not appointed soon.
