New use for old police
vehicles Itanagar, Nov 17
The Arunachal Pradesh Police would now be seen in a new avatar,
carrying medicines in some of its vehicles for the aid of patients
of this hilly State situated in a highly seismic zone and with poor
road connectivity.
To serve the people in this new way, the Arunachal Police Ambulance
Service (APAS), designed by the State's Director General of Police
Amod Kanth, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Gegong Apang here
today.
Barring two, all the 17 vehicles used in the service were old workhorses
of the police department lying unused. They were converted to ambulances
after repairing and modification costing only Rs 5 to 6 lakh, Kanth
said during the launch of the service.
The Union Ministry of Surface Transport provided the fund for purchase
of the two new vehicles, Kanth said, adding eight more old vehicles
had been identified and they would join the fleet soon.
As there was hardly any ambulance in the State, all these police
ambulances would be stationed in
different districts of the state.
